Master Gardener Training in Bakersville, NC

The MItchell County, NC Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service will offer a Master Gardener training course in January, 2022. Here's your chance to learn about raising food and flowers, and to get awarded a certification.

Following is the information provided by the Mitchell County Cooperative Extension Service. Remember: if you're interested, the first thing to do is to call the Service and reserve a spot in one of the informational sessions held in October 2021.

Learn about a broad range of horticultural topics and how to apply them to growing food or flowers:

  • Vegetable and fruit production
  • Wildlife damage prevention
  • Soil improvement
  • Weed Management
  • Integrated pest management
  • Botany
  • Landscape design
  • Tree and grounds maintenance
  • Lawn Care
  • And more!

12-week Training Program begins January 2022

To apply to the program, applicants must:

  1. Attend one of three informational sessions:
    10/5 at 9am at Bakersville's Historic Courthouse (Google Map)
    10/9 at 10am at Bakersville's Historic Courthouse (Google Map) or
    10/14 at 6pm at the Mitchell Senior Center. (Google Map)
  2. Submit an application.
  3. If you are selected pay $125 registration fee. Fee covers training materials. (If cost is prohibitive contact Shane Biddix, Assistant Extensioin Agent, Agriculture at 828-688-4811.)

Novice gardeners are as welcome to apply as are lifelong gardeners!
