Need Your Input for a 2023 Homesteaders Conference

Happy New Year homesteaders! We hope your 2023 will be a great year. We need your input please on our planned October Homesteaders Conference.

We want to host this conference on a friend’s homestead but here’s the catch – as with most small farms and homesteads in the Western North Carolina mountains – the available land is both rocky and hilly. There’s very little flat open space. We will sell 100 tickets at $45 for a full, one day event so we want your opinion based on the following:

CONS

We’ll be a bit crowded.

Facilities will be primitive with a couple of porta potties and a water station.

The barn can be drafty and seating will be “friendly.”

There’s not enough parking so to avoid congestion we’ll run a convenient shuttle from about 2 miles down the road.

PROS

We won’t offer the same glitzy headliner speakers you see at other major conferences. How many ways can they say the same old thing?

We will have speakers, demonstrators and vendors who are from the area and who are experienced in homesteading in our area.

At this point, there are plans in place to have food available to purchase but your ticket price will include an old fashioned “country lunch” of pinto beans and cornbread.
